Fabio Scarpa

Fabio Scarpa is Associate Professor of Genetics at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Sassari. A bioinformatics geneticist, his research activity integrates classical and computational genetics with bioinformatics, with the goal of studying viral evolution and host-pathogen interactions.

In recent years, he has delved into various aspects of the genomics of emerging viruses, from the genetic variability of SARS-CoV-2 variants to the evolutionary history of viruses such as Influenzavirus, Mpox, Dengue, and Marburg. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a solid ability to combine advanced genomic technologies with epidemiological data, making relevant contributions to the understanding of the mechanisms of spread and evolution of infectious diseases.
